So, to set the scene, I'm driving home from work yesterday and I notice an Audi Q3 driving RIGHT BEHIND a poor Vauxhall Insignia for ages. This was in the left hand lane, going 70mph up a dual carriageway, for about 5 minutes straight. However, further up the road, the traffic can be seen slowing almost to a halt. The Insignia starts to ease off the accelerator and eventually starts to break, however the Q3 is completely and utterly oblivious to all things traffic-related and very nearly crashes right into the back of the Insignia. I very nearly witnessed a crash.
My question is: what is the legality surrounding this? If anyone reading this is on the force, do you ever pull anyone over if you notice them tailgating for dangerously long periods of time? If I was a police officer, I would honestly try to enforce this. A danger to not only themselves but also other road users.
And the cheek on some tailgaters when you try to increase your stopping distance to save both of your lives... Unbelievable.
