Hi have hit a major problem confirming the correct i.d of my engine which is causing mayhem buying parts.
The van comes up as a 2.2 tdci when I give my reg to a parts desk anywhere and I'm fully aware that most of the 2.2 is identical to the 2.4 engine, but its ludicrous to simply accept that its a 2.4 but technically a 2.2 euro 5 on the basis of any parts desk automatically knowing this and supplying the right parts because its not that straight forward.
A prime example is Friday just gone. I gave my reg to a spares shop and they confirmed 2.2 tdci?....yes. I'm expecting a price for one accessory/drive belt and the guy tells me theres two belts I need. I stated mines not got aircon which he confirmed, both stretch fit, one smaller than the other. This tallys up with diagrams in my workshop manual and printed info too, yet go under my bonnet, its just one belt.
Unless you have a degree specifically on the 2.2 tdci engine no ones going to be aware of exactly what parts are or are not identical between the 2.2 and 2.4 and this potential accessory/drive belt purchase is exactly my point. I'm not to know if future parts needed are correct or not.
Another mega important example is on the day before, when I purchased nearly £300 worth of timing chain and other required related components parts. Now they were all purchased via my reg plate as a 2.2....so does this mean I'm going to have the same problem??...the wrong parts?
Thanks
