I took my 2011 VW Golf 2.0 TDI into a local garage to have the cam belt replaced as it has done nearly 70,000 miles. Once they removed the cover they found some diesel has leaked onto the cam belt. This seems to result in a horror story and huge cost. They are saying that the bearing in the fuel pump has gone, resulting in fuel leaking onto the gearing attached to the cambelt and requiring a pump replacement.
This also comes with a need to flush through the fuel pipes from the tank and possibly a replacement fuel pump in the tank as well.
Does this sound reasonable, and what sort of time would be needed to do all this?
