I was actually incensed to read in our local paper that the main instigator of this campaign was awarded an OBE. He lives in our town and the local council has taken his campaign on board.I know that many other councils have taken this on board too. I can understand the motives but the actual policing and obeyance of a 20mph limit are farcical. I am at present under the "Freedom of information act" trying to obtain the cost to ratepayers in my town for this nonsense. If the normal speed limits are so poorly enforced why do we need yet more limits in roads that you would be lucky if you could achieve 15mph with all the parked cars on the road. The roads are falling apart and councils are wasting £Ks on daft signs and schemes like this. It is mainly based at child safety and yet I see parents flout the school parking laws on a daily basis, drive with "child on board" stickers in their cars and then proceed to drive like crackpots. Road safety should be taught in schools (if it isn't already) by volunteers. It defies common sense that such vast amounts of money are wasted on "do good" schemes
