Help please!!!

Hi everyone, or anyone reading this post.
I brought a car for my son's 17th birthday in March, collected it and insured it through, compare the market and went with Collingwood insurance. No problems, answered all questions honestly and correctly on compare the market, went through to a page to add bank details and names of drivers and policy holder. I am the named driver.
On the 16th of this month, someone hit me, drivers side door, I was in inside lane, they came from the right from a filter lane. They denied it was their fault (surprise surprise) .
So, as you do, I rang the insurance company to tell them, to then be told I am not insured on that vehicle....because I have breached the policy!! WHAT A SHOCK this was to me!
I asked why, apparently, on the policy, the named driver, had to have own car and own insurance!???? I haven't, I am also the named driver on another vehicle but do not own it. At no point was this asked by them, although they state that I had to have ticked a box to say I have!
I requested they send screenshots of this, they have, but I have no knowledge of this...I saved the quote on my phone and whilst pulled into services, i clicked it then paid!
Now then, my issue is....my sons policy is fully comp. I was driving as the named driver, ok they say I have breached the policy but are saying they are going to refuse indemnity on my son and any claims will be billed to him, under his policy!!
I am so angry at them, I am so angry with the fact I feel I have been miss-sold an insurance policy and I have been driving his first car, someone smashed into me and I ring to do the right thing, if it wasn't for this happening, I would of been non the wiser that I am not legally insured on that vehicle!! A possible 6 points if pulled.
So, can they carry on the claim and it done under his policy, even though it was me driving and not insured?
They told me initially because my worry was he hasn't even passed his test yet....car insurance is expensive as it is, will he be protected? They said yes, as it was me that took the insurance out on his behalf but then a letter came today, stating that they are refusing indemnity.
I am so confused :(
