Faulty rear diff damaging shock absorber

About 4 months ago, the rear diff on our Hyundai Santa Fe failed. The car was driven for about 60 miles before we knew what the problem was and the garage was informed of this when the car went in. We were still covered by the warranty and the car was repaired.
We have now been told that the rear shock absorbers have worn and need to be replaced but that this is not covered by the 5 year warranty as we are now beyond the 60,000 mile limit for these parts. We have been quoted £2,300 for the repairs!
The car (not yet 3 years old) has been in to the same dealership 4 times in the last 6 months (because of a problem with parking brake, then a rear diff issue, a full service 2 months ago and an MOT yesterday) so this is really annoying. Could the problem with the rear diff have caused excessive wear and tear to the rear shock absorbers and should the shock absorbers have been checked when the rear diff was replaced? It seems like a bit of a coincidence to me! I would be grateful for any advice as I am not a technical person!
