I've got a "whistling" noise coming from the front of the car when I accelerate. I say whistling but it's quite hard to describe, that's probably the best description I can come up with. It's not like a shrill whistle, it starts softly and it whirs up to a very noticeable whistle if I continue accelerating without changing gear. It feels like the sound has an "electrical motor" element to the noise like when fans or hard drives whir up to speed when you switch on a computer but maybe I'm imagining that because I spend so much time around computers. When I do change gear the noise dies down and comes back again when I put pressure back on the accelerator. It is more noticeable in the lower gears than the higher.

It is possible to drive the car without the noise if I accelerate very lightly and shift gear very early but that's obviously not realistic and the noise is now loud enough that there is clearly a problem.
We bought the car at the end of January this year with 1200 miles on the clock, it's been used mainly for short runs to work etc but has had numerous regular medium/long runs around Scotland and northern England so we've never seen the dashboard light we were warned about if the vehicle doesn't get long runs. There are no warning lights, no noticeable performance difference or smoke or anything other than the noise.
I first thought I could hear something about 10 days ago, the noise became just about noticeable but it was so quiet that I didn't do anything about it. Stupid pride stopping me turning up to the garage with the vehicle in case I looked like an idiot as it could have been an acceptable noise at the time it was nothing more than a slightly different noise. Over the past few days it has become more and more noticeable and since the car is still in warranty I have no qualms taking it back to the garage - I hope they can do something on a Saturday.
The question is more academic really but does anyone have any suspicions what the issue might be from my (not very good) description of the noise and the circumstances?
Thanks in advance.
