Sad people!

Been a beautiful day up here and I think it's caused people to lose their heads. Had to print off 200 pages and drive out to a mate's with them this afternoon. Was flagged down by a Lady in a BT wagon; she'd clipped a rock trying to avoid another vehicle on the single track road and one of her tyres had been sliced and deflated. She didn't know the island and had no mobile reception. She was rather flustered and a bit upset that several cars had already ignored her attempts to get help. That wagon was going nowhere. Fortunately, I had got a phone signal (unusual) so she used my phone to call AA. The guy would take at least an hour to get to her as he was down on the Ross and it's all single track, so I said I'd deliver what I needed to and would be back in 45 minutes or so. Well, it was over an hour before I got back to her and found her very upset - she'd had had abuse from a number of people for blocking the passing place, including 2 motor-homers (and you all know my views on their ability to drive on single track roads and that they don't have reverse gear). The only thing I found astonishing was that they knew what a passing place was for! I asked where she was staying and she was going to be in Tob, so used my phone to call Susan the proprietor. I felt I should stay with her so took the Freelander off road to keep the remainder of the passing place (at least two large car lengths) clear. In the 10 minutes I was with her before the recovery man arrived, we were entertained by two incidents of I can't reverse and shouting abuse and the most bizarre attempts at reversing I've ever seen. We also had abusive comments hurled at us. Soon stopped when I picked up my radio mic!! Left her with the AA man and I'm glad to say she was back parking up when I went down to get a fish supper.

Had perfectly good meal ready to cook for tonight but was further delayed on my way back by a 20 mph driver and one that must have seen me coming for over a mile. He ignored the passing place, so I just stopped in the road - took him 8 minutes to reverse - in a car - less than 200 yards!
