Electric cars - another government carrot!

According to the website of Confused.com another nail or two is to be hammered into the coffin for fossil-fuel pwered vehicles.
Drivers of electric vehicles are to be allowed to use bus lanes, be given free residential parking permits, and fee-free charging stations.

Trial areas for the government's "Go Ultra Low" are Bristol, Derby, Milton Keynes, Nottingham and London.
Transport secretary McLoughlin said, "I want to see thousands more greener vehicles on our roads, and I am proud to back this ambition with £40 million ......."

Harrow and Hackney - Street lights will be reconfigured to double as charging stations.

Milton Keynes - Bus lanes to be rebranded as 'low emission lanes' for plug-in vehicles. Such cars will also be given the same priority at traffic lights as buses.

The government is not given to handing out cash from its coffers without raking it back from the pockets of some other poor sods - in this case the fossil fuel driver, and perhaps pass the buck to local councils via milking the council tax.

If this is all coming from the Transport secretary, who is his Minister - The Mad Hatter?
