Hi all
Late last night, I was driving to east London from Bristol. I was using google maps as sat nav to get me to my destination. It took me through London and at around 2am tried to direct me to take a left to enter and go through Regent's Park. However, at the junction there is a set of lights and on the lights a 'no left turn' sign was illuminated along with another illuminated sign saying "Park closed". Stupidly, I turned left anyway to try and suss out what to do (obviously I should've just continued straight) and was met by a closed gate. Obviously, I had to get back into the main road, so I turned my car around to get back onto the main road, but was held at a red light. I waited for a very long time, and tried repositioning my car to get a sensor to see me. It became apparent that the light was not going to change - presumably because the park was closed so there shouldn't be any traffic exiting the park. I felt I had little choice but to wait until there was no oncoming traffic and drive back onto the main road through the red light - either that or wait for the park to reopen in 5 hours' time. Will I be penalised for this, do we think? Will I get done for going down a no left turn AND going through a red light? Seems a bit unfair. Obviously I should've been a bit more on the ball, but these things happen, I guess. In fact, as I was sat there for only about 5 minutes, someone else very nearly made the same mistake and came along the main road with their indicator on, slowed down to turn, noticed the gates were closed, stopped on the main road, then continued on and drove off. I think this must be a fairly common occurrence. Anyone know the area and have experience of this? Tia.
