Keeping up with the Jones's

Hi all, Glen here, thought Id introduce myself with an insight into a small dilemma were having on the housing estate where we live.

We moved into our house in 1990 and initially enjoyed friendship with all our neighbours, however there is one family who are always armed with a put down, always have to top what you say or do or own, and it has become a real battle for supremacy over the years, especially in the car stakes. We have enjoyed the upper hand for a few years now, but their most recent purchase will take some beating and that's why I'm on the forums seeking advice from those in the know.

The recent troubles stem back to 2010, when they bought a nearly new Golf, so we bought a Passat, then in 2012 they bought an Audi A4, so we trumped it with an Audi A6 and when they fitted a Halfords roofbox, we fitted a far superior Thule one...

Anyway, they have now put a 61 reg Range Rover Sport on the driveway, 20 inch wheels, privacy class, electric tow bar, the works, its tough to see how were going to gain the upper hand with just £12k to spend. I'm here to garner opinion and am open to ideas, but here are 3 of my own:

1) Buy a well used Porsche Cayenne (we have a private number plate from when they bought an M reg Escort and we only had a K reg)

2) Buy a new 65 reg Dacia Duster (in black so it looks more expensive)

3) Apply for planning permission for a massive extension by way of excuse not to upgrade the A6.

Any help is much appreciated, and no, moving house is not an option, not after we've fitted Everest double glazing to trump their unbranded rubbish which are already starting to steam up on cold mornings...
