I drive a 2011 Ford Focus CC3 Convertible and the factory fitted battery finally gave up the ghost. I called out the RAC and the mechanic who turned up fitted an RAC003 battery, which is a 61 amp battery manufactured by Exide. The original battery was a Ford Calcium Battery and therefore, the car is fitted with smart charging, however the mechanic seemed unaware of what this meant and insisted that the RAC003 battery was superior to the original Ford Calcium battery. Is this correct, as I have read that ordinary lead acid batteries are not suited to fast charging (possible 18 volt), leading to a short life and possible problems with the car electrics.
Also, the battery was disconnected without back up, so the radio is locked out and I do not have the code. I was told to contact a Ford dealer, who should be able to recover the code. I am wishing that I had held off and gone to the dealer in the first place.
