Funny goings-on at the bank.

Seeing that my debit card was due to expire at the end of this month, I rang the bank to enquire if a replacement had been sent (concern about possible loss in the post). The call centre girl(?) said they had started to send out new debit cards just after Christmas, but no, one hadn't been sent to me. This is where it gets weird.
She would arrange for the new debit card to be ordered immediately - should arrive by 5 working days. But she would say both cards (joint account) were damaged, because if she said they were lost the existing cards would be cancelled immediately.

Now, with replacements due, why should she report them as damaged, or even lost? As far as I can see, there was no reason to rate the cards as 'damaged'. Sure is a puzzle to me!!!
