Accident on roundabout - whose fault?

My husband was turning right on a four-exit roundabout. As he passed the start of the third turning, he indicated to come off the roundabout and moved towards the left-hand land to exit. As he did this, a car from the third turning decided to race out before a lorry which was approaching and drove straight into hubby's car, spinning him off the roundabout. She has not admitted liability and our insurer is now saying they will settle as knock for knock. So, our car is a write-off, we will have to pay £200 excess, we lose our no-claims and our premiums will increase as we now have a claim showing as our fault!

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that cars coming onto a roundabout had to give way to vehicles already on the roundabout and, if a car hits another in the rear, it is their fault. In what world is this fair? Our car was old but extremely low mileage and in excellent condition. We will never replace it, so we are now without a car, £200-plus out of pocket and facing an increased insurance bill in the future, when we have saved up to buy a new car. Do we have any chance of challenging the decision?
