I have just returned from travelling in Asia for 3 months to find I got a speeding ticket 2 days before I went away.
The letter about it was issued and arrived whilst I was out of the country. As soon as I was back and saw the letter I called up to pay the fine and explain but they said there was nothing they could do (Avon and Somerset police) as it has now gone to court.
I can prove I was away with passport stamps and boarding cards, I am waiting for the court letter to arrive and hoping I can write or call them to explain. I am happy to admit the fine and pay the fixed penalty and would have done so if I had been in the country and known about it but I don't think it's fair I have to potentially go to court and wind up with a large fine, will they be understanding that I was away and tried to pay as soon as I knew?
I have had no fines or points in the last five years and think I was doing about 40 in a 30 zone at about 4am on way to work.
Anyone know what the outcome of this is likely to be?
Thanks
