Ford Focus Central Locking Fault

Okay guys, I really need some help here....

Central locking starting making what sounded like a grinding noise a few years back when using my fob, which my local mechanic told me was just a solenoid on it's way out and that I could simply leave it to conk out completely. Well, that happened a few months later (or at least I thought it did) and I've just been using the key ever since.

Anyway, I'm now looking to sell the car as myself and my partner are emigrating to Oz in Feb and so I decided it was time to get this fixed. Upon returning to the local garage, I was told that a solenoid wasn't to blame as none of my doors at all are reacting to the fob. I explained that the battery had been changed so it couldn't be that and was told to try reprogramming it to the car, which I did - this never worked, however. As my car isn't responding to the reprogramming, my mechanic told me that it must be an issue with the key and that I would have to go to the Ford garage and they'd be able to figure it out.

Just wondering whether or not anybody has ever experienced anything like this and could offer some advice as I really don't want to have my eyes pulled out if it's something I could fix quite easily, especially as I'm going to sell the car anyway.

My car is a 58 plate Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 petrol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Gary.
