Hello,
I've had membership with the RAC for 5 years now. I recently bought a new car (about a week ago) and stupidly forgot to inform the RAC of my change of details.
I broke down on Sunday evening on the side of a busy dual carriageway. I pulled in as close to the crash barrier as I could, with only one lane open so all traffic was in the same lane as my car.
I called the RAC to request assistance and was informed that I'd have to pay a £25 admin fee before anyone was called to help me due to my car change. This confused me a bit as I do have individual cover for myself too but as I agreed to pay it as I just wanted to get off that road. I then was put on hold for another 7 minutes as the original person couldn't take the payment. I was told it would took up to 90 minutes to get me, despite me being on my own and broken down half way across a lane on the dual carriageway.
The police arrived after about 25 minutes and pushed me further down the road into a layby which was safer. After waiting for 45 minutes I called the RAC again to see if they had any idea how long I'd be left there, they informed me I hadn't been put as a priority and it was going to take 85 minutes (on top of the 45 I'd already been stood there). Eventually traffic officers turned and called the AA who came within 5 minutes to get me to a safe place and get my car started.
Now I was annoyed about the way the RAC handled my breakdown. I have broken down once before and they came within 30 minutes, and this was when I was in a safe place.
I had a call yesterday to say that my payment had declined (probably because they couldn't hear me over all the traffic shouting my card details). They wanted to confirm my bank details but I didn't have anything on me to confirm them. I'm a bit confused why I need to pay the £25 now? Do all changes in details require a £25 payment? Because if I am paying because I called to change in the middle of a breakdown, 1. I have personal cover that surly should of covered that, and 2. no one fro the RAC even came to assist me, the AA did. So what am I paying for exactly?
