Hit and Run Accident

Hi Everyone, this is my first post.

I was involved in a car crash 2 weeks ago where the driver at about 40mph went into the back of me while I was stationary sending me into the car in front. He then reversed back from my car and sped off however my girlfriend managed to note down his registration.

After a police "investigation", the police said the driver had previous convictions and in short, "was not a nice guy", however in conducting their investigation said owner of the car (conveniently) provided a sales receipt for the car to someone else the day before the incident. The police picked up this information from the sales receipt and visited the address where the owner of the house was a different name and had never owned a car. The sales receipt was obviously forged, with the Police saying that " Did he pull the wool over our eyes?..probably, but we'll never know in a million years. From there they said that they had followed all lines of investigation and had no other evidence to go on. To me personally, this just seems lazy and uninspired police work where they have been only too happy to close this investigation with a scrappy sales receipt and minimal investigation.

I have never been involved in an accident and am unsure how to progress this as I will now need to get my car fixed through my own insurer and my girlfriend has had 2 physio appointments since the accident (she was leaning forward to check her phone...typical!). I understand that I will now need to go through the Motor Insurers Bureau however my insurer has now passed my details to Lyons Davidson solicitors who are avidly trying to pursue my claim, although I have heard several criticisms of them through others.

Is this really how simply the Police give up or can be persuaded/tricked?

Is this the only options available to me or is there any advice that anyone can offer as I very disappointed in how this has transpired.

This is completely new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.
