My cam chain is rattling again having already replaced it some time ago and it is the type which has a solenoid which changes the tension top to bottom to change the inlet valve timing.
My oil pressure is OK so I do not think this is the problem.
I have run the car in the past with the solenoid disconnected and frankly have not noticed any significant difference in performance.
My garage has a spare tensioner which they have had in stock for some time but it is the type which dose not have the solenoid.
I see from the internet that these tensioners are advertised as suitable for an A4.
It looks as if it would fit my car and would be a much cheaper replacement - do you know if this would be OK please just to keep the old car on the road ?
