ford focus 1.8tdci 2002 plate

hi I have just bought a ford focus 1.8tdci on driving home it over heated and when you put your foot down the engine cuts out!
The battery light stays on when driving and there is no hot air coming into the car please could any help with what might be the problem the turbo is fine from what I can see its had a new maf sensor put on from what I can see so can rule that out lol am just a bit stuck tbh thanks for reading...
