Hello
I have a Fiat Stilo 1.9JTD. I've had this rattle that is audible from the dashboard passenger side. It happens when the weather is cold and when the car is in idle but goes away when revs are applied. Also it goes away when I have driven round long enough for the car to warm up. During very warm weather its not there at all or very quiet. I took it to Fiat for something else doing and I mentioned it to them. They said it was an exhaust mount and they did cure it but only for a couple of days. I've also had a new engine fitted and when I got the car back the rattle quietened down but came back. Now I have no idea what exhaust mount Fiat are talking about but I'm wondering if they meant ENGINE mount. I understand the engine mount (under the battery tray) are prone to failure causing what is described as a metallic rattle and vibrations in the cabin. However this rattle sounds more 'plasticy' but maybe with a bit of metallic noise in it. I've not noticed any excess vibrations however. So Fiat say exhaust mount, is there such a mount at the engine end of the car that can produce this rattle is they are broken? Or I reckon it could be this engine mount. But the rattle loudness was affected after my new engine was fitted so something that was put back together altered it???
Does anybody have any idea on which is the most likely?
Thanks
Phil
