I was riding home from work today and was approaching a roundabout. I was travelling at approximately 20mph in a 30mph zone and saw someone indicating to go round the roundabout so I steadily slowed down and came to a stop at the junction to the roundabout.
About 3 seconds later I was hit directly in the back of my bike by a car travelling around 20mph which caused me to be thrown over the handlebars and into the centre of the lane going around the roundabout. I landed on my arm and rotated, mid fall, onto my back. I have some serious soft tissue damage from my right elbow all the way down to my hand and fairly severe pain in my lower back as well as road rash on leg and arm.
My bike was buried beneath the front of the 3rd parties car and the frame was snapped and bent, the tank was displaced and the rear end was completely wrecked, so I can only presume the bike is a right off. There were several witnesses to the incident and the whole thing was recorded by the police when they attended the scene so I am sure I can claim on my insurance for the bike.
However, I am wondering it is possible for me to claim further for injuries as I cannot work with the injuries and I am concerned of the long term damage to my arm and back. Is this something I can do if I gather evidence to prove that I was not at fault? Another thing I had an issue with was the ambulance, which was called about 2 minutes after the incident, took 40 minutes to arrive which left me very anxious and has made me wonder if not being seen to earlier has caused further possible injury which could have been prevented had they arrived promptly.
Thanks for any help,
Tom
