What can I do?

Hi all, I have a Volvo V40 D4, three years old, serviced 10 July 2015. When I went to pick it up they were replacing a second oil seal as the first leaked. Took it back three weeks later due to oil light coming on and service reset light needed doing. Seal replaced and mechanic said he'd topped up the oil. 17 July Engine System Maintenance light comes. (oil overfilled) Next day (Sat) rang garage, closed, rang on Monday booked it in for next day. Later that day fan belt snaps and gets behind cam belt. Next day garage recovers car and explains that oil seal blew, oil on fan belt, cambelt moved bent valves and cylinder head damaged. Just unlucky. ( I have learnt that my wife was told a stone got up and damaged the fan belt). So now I have an impending bill for excess of £1500 and feel that I have been greatly let down by a garage that I thought I could trust. What gets me more is that the garage have been very keen to keep costs down for us, which I feel is them admitting responsibility, but not wanting to pay for the repair. Am I unlucky or being taken for a ride, if that's the case how do I get the garage to pay for their mistake.
