Earlier this year my catalytic converter was stolen from my van (non commercial) and as the quote to replace and fit it was £1800 I asked my insurance company if I could claim, but they wanted my excess plus 25 percent of part. In the end I bought a cat from scrap for a lot less and didn't claim through insurance. My insurance record now shows that I have made a no fault claim for £0 settlement and on renewing the insurance on my 2nd vehicle had to pay an extra £150 as a direct result of not claiming on my van! Is this the correct treatment for not actually making a claim? Help!
