Hello
I have been driving just over a year and only drive in my local area so to reduce premiums I settled for a £3000 excess. My car was parked on a steep hill and the handbrake failed and hit another car causing major bumper damage and a bit of a dent in the rear and side. My car only had paint damage due to the tow-bar taking the brunt of the force.
The car damaged was a 10 year old fiat punto 1.2 with low mileage and I told the guy I would rather settle after telling him my excess was £3000.
Well he told me the repair bill will be £3200 after getting a quote from a garage and the he wants to get it repaired but there is no way the car is worth close to that amount.
I feel I should just get my insurance involved who will better be able to deal with the situation and just agree with them to pay for the damage without making a claim.
Sorry I am inexperienced in this situation and not sure what to do without ending up with super high premiums next year.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
