Recently the engine will cut out, dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree. After 5 or 10 minutes, I can restart the car, but engine light will stay on. This usually happens when the car is cold and just gets to optimum temperature, and when either slowing or stopping at traffic lights. There is no rhyme or reason...doesn't happen every day. It is getting frustrating and dangerous.
I don't want to take it to a garage for either expensive diagnostics or repairs...is this something I could fix myself?
Car is 2001 Mercedes SLK 3.2 manual. Mileage is 120k.
