My 18 year old daughter clipped the driver wing mirror, with her passenger wing mirror, of a Kia parked around the corner from our home. She came and told me and I went to have a look and the mirror was damaged. I left a note on the windscreen, as we didn't know who owned the car. The people who own the car came round today and are trying to claim that my daughter has done thousands of pounds worth of damage to the Kia. There are a number of quite deep scratches and all along the driver's side of the car, which to me look like they have been there for some time The Kia is red, my daughter's Polo is silver; she has a black mark on the back of her wing mirror but no other damage to her car and no sign of any red paint. My daughter only passed her test in January and her insurance is £1800. Has anyone any experience of something similar with a young driver? The burden of proof lies with the couple who are claiming that my daughter is responsible for the damage but I don't want to start a neighbourhood fight as they only live a few doors away, but it is quite clear that they are trying to make a false claim. Their car is part of a mobility scheme?
