Ford focus idle and stalling issues

Hi guys, new around here. I've recently got my first car, a bit of an oldie but you have to start somewhere.

I'm driving a ford focus, 2000, 1.4L

It's got a few issues I was hoping for a little help on. I'm no mechanic but I have used this site for suggestions since I've had the car and done what I can. Here goes....

When I got the car, it had a very rough idle ranging from 700-1200 rpm and it also had a broken speedo. I've since used the advice on here to switch out the Vss and it fixed the speedo issues but none of the idling issues.

After some reading I got the idea that the IACV may be the issue so I ordered the part and replaced it. When I put the new one in, the car started up revving at 4000 rpm. The parts place had sent me out the valve for a 1.8 adamant it was for a 1.4. So I put the old one back in and reordered the part in the mean time.

With the old one back in the idle became worse and the car started stalling at junctions when clutch was in. It had also on occasion cut out while, driving. Scary for most I'm sure but a new driver I wasn't aware the the power steering locked up.

So I got the right part and fitted it. When I tried the new IACV. The car stalled after starting up when the key was released, regardless of if the engine was hot or cold. Once again I put the old one back in. That was a few days ago. Yesterday the old valve began doing the same and wouldn't start at all, so I put the new one In this morning with the intention that when it goes to the garage, it can be sorted as it is.

Out of curiosity I fired it up with the new valve back in. Once more it stalled out. Then a tried it with gas until the engine warmed up. The valve idles at 700 rpm, I went for a drive about 20 miles. The car hasn't stalled out one at junctions or driving but when standing the engine sounds a little rough. Now the car will drive but I have to gas it until engine is warm to prevent it stalling.

Sorry for the long post, like I say I'm new at this stuff and any advice would be great
