Passageway between terraces

I own a terraced house in a row of 4. My next door neighbour lives at the other side of the passage or gennel as they are sometimes known. One of his bedrooms is above the passageway.
I am not sure whether he owns the passageway or indeed if he can as other neighbours
have access.
He has put plaster boards on the roof of the passageway for insulation. He has also put a wooden joist on top of the plasterboard. He has taken out a brick from my property side of the passageway and fitted the end of the wooden hoist in it. The other end of the wooden joist fits into his wall and property side.
What I need to know is is he allowed to take away a brick from my property side of the passageway to fit in the wooden joist without my permission even though he may own the passageway?
