Car has no power...

Hi there.
Hoping someone here could help out with my problem.
I have a 52plate Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 petrol car.

About 3 weeks ago, the car wouldn't start. Just made a repeating clicking noise when turning the key.
I was informed (by Halfords) that is was probably the starter motor and to give it a whack to see if it starts. I did, and it did start.
I had the intention of next week taking it into Halfords to get a new starter motor put in it. (And just whack the starter motor if and when it didn't start again until then).

However, yesterday morning (1/4/15) it wouldn't start and just made the clicking noise, and whacking the starter motor did not make it start.
I ran out of time so got the bus to work. When I got home from work yesterday evening, I tried again and still wouldn't start.

This morning (2/4/15) i went out to give it another try, and now there is no power what-so-ever. The keys wont open the doors by remote and when unlocking manually the central locking doesn't work. No lights or lights on the dash. No clicking from the engine when turning the key.

I don't understand why it's completely dead. The lights were NOT left on, neither was anything in the car electrical. Nothing plugged into cigarette lighter etc.

What could be the problem, before I pay a-lot to get it towed to Halfords and then a-lot for them to discover and fix the problem? Is there something simple I'm missing?

Many thanks...
