RAC Services not joined up

Hi

Yesterday my Mini Cooper RF56LME was towed by RAC Recovery Services to a VAT Registered Garage because the RAC roadside mechanic had confirmed that the front suspension coil spring had snapped.

All was going well until the RAC Warranty helpline refused to authorise repairs until photographs confirming the issue have been sent to them by "a qualified mechanic" If the roadside mechanic is not qualified, what is he doing there?

Furthermore, he advised us to get s hire car, as we would be entitled to one. I didn't get one yesterday because my car should have been ready for me today.

Now, because of the delay, caused by the need for photographs of damage already seen and confirmed by an RAC roadside mechanic, I am going to be without my car until Friday when I should have been getting it back today. I was still okay with this until I was told today that I could not get a hire car because the repairs will take less than 8 hours to complete.

I need my car for work and I have a disabled child to consider. I feel that in this case, the delay is uncalled for. Surely the report of a roadside mechanic is enough evidence for repairs to go ahead? If the car damage was not legitimate, the RAC roadside mechanic would have seen this. This is a case of a company whose services are not "joined up". When this causes severe inconvenience to customers, action needs to be taken.
