Peugot 206 LX 1.4l (W Reg, 2000) - Intermittent Stalling / Fuel-Air Ratio Issue

Hi,

I have the above car, obviously! I've been having intermittent problems for around a year now, I've not taken it to the garage in fear of cost more than anything. I've had the intermittent problem for some time. It's intermittent in that I can start it from parked at home, drive perfectly for x amount of miles, park up, come back to the car anytime from 20 minutes to 2 hours later and have this problem. Then sometimes, I won't have the problem at all and it'll start second time fine. I'm finding it impossible to diagnose through research.

The car will rev insanely at times, it will usually rev it self and stick at 2k for a while, sometime's it will jump up and down on it's own. Sometimes when I apply the accelerator when it does this, the revs will dip - if I only apply a small amount here the revs will drop and the engine cut off. If I apply the accelerator a lot rather than a little it revs up and anything above 2k is fine, but then it will continue to drop. I broke down about a month ago now, I thought it was the battery for a long time but after not being able to be jump start on this occasion, breakdown came out and he said it was an air/fuel mix problem.

So far I have replaced:
- Sparks
- Coil Pack
- Idle Control Valve

I replaced the ICV today, it was fine whilst I was parked at home and testing it around the car park. I then went to see my uncle to see if the problem was fixed beyond my usual parking space, as soon as I got on the main road around the corner, the revving started again. This time it didn't drop/cut out but basically drove like I was on cruise control (I don't have cruise control!). I parked up, stayed for ~2 hours and then went back to the car. It wouldn't start until I pushed the accelerator down and then continued to rev itself for ~5-10m. I tried to press the accelerator and it started to dip so I just left it until I could hear it drop down to 1k revs (I've remembered this off tone, it happens that often now).

Any help in diagnosing this problem so I can fix it would be amazing, it's been the bain of my life for about a year now :(

Thanks
C
