Car Insurance Void

Recently put in a claim on my insurance as me and another car had a collision on a roundabout. To be fair I would say it was joint blame on both of our parts but My car was wrote off. Very little damage to the other gentlemen's car. Then my insurance company have come back to me and have told me they are voiding my policy as the date they have for me passing my driving test isn't compatible with the date I have given them when I had my DVLA conference call this has happened almost 2 months after the claim has been logged. I couldn't believe it. I went to the ombudsman who told me to ask for the final report and all transcript and documents of calls and evidence they have for this as they cannot do anything until they have sent this final notice. In the mean time I just thought I would see if anyone else has had any other similar experiences with this? im not sure how this has happened? I said it must be a typing error or genuine error on my part if I had confirmed this. But now im worried that the third party will think the could absolutely take me to the cleaners because I now have no insurance and the company said once the insurance is void it will as if there never any insurance on the car. also worried that I could get in trouble legally? as I was totally unaware of this until it arose. Im truly gutted as this is the first ever accident and claim I have experienced in my 3 years of driving and it looks like its going to not get any better.

For anyone that could shed any light or help me or offer advice I would be so grateful.

thankyou in advance
