Hi guys, sorry- a long post
So I was dropping a friend off at uni and stopped on a private road. As I was leaving I had to go through a narrow one way part of the road but there were cars parked on double yellow lines on both sides, one car must have only just parked there as he was arguing with the uni traffic warden. I was concerned about obviously not hitting any car but at the last moment my back passenger side scraped the other car (not the one belonging to the guy arguing). I knew who the car it belonged to. Great - I thought and contacted her to come look at her car. We can sort it without an insurance claim as there's no damage to my car and only a little bit of paint came off her car on her rear passenger side. Straightaway she said to avoid insurance.
I got a quote for £80 from my garage. Next day she tells me that she spoke to her dad who asked what side of the car there was damage on. She said the passenger side and he pointed out that someone else had previously hit her rear driver side which she hadn't realised. Her quote is £140 from one garage.
Another person hit the rear driver side of her parked car in work and drove off so now there's two people who have damaged her rear driver side and drove off.
So when she goes to get quote from another garage it's £240 - they want to replace her whole bumper which would fix the damage i hadn't caused too.
I have offered her 3 ways of fixing her car in my town but she's saying all of them are inconvenient to her as she doesn't want to drive to my town or let myself or my dad drive her car to the garage (covered 3rd party to drive other cars). She is only covered to drive her own car due to only being 20 years old. She wants me to pay the £140. I'm saying no because I can get it fixed in a matter of hours for £60 cheaper than her quote and I would prefer to get it done in my garage as I only want to pay for the part I damaged. She is now debating to contact insurance.
Where do I stand? From my point of view i'm being reasonable in only wanting to pay for what I did, offering her ways to fix it and she was parked illegally on double yellow lines so would that help me if she claimed on her insurance? There's no witnesses due to the warden and the guy of the other car disappearing at some point and I have no idea who they were or how to contact them. I wasn't paying attention to them as I got out the car to look at the damage to the cars. Also not sure where I stand because it was a private road.
Thanks
