Hi all,
I am relatively new to Clio ownership and this forum. I bought a FSH 69K Clio a couple of weeks ago with no warning lights or running problems at all at the time. I am now having a few issues however.
Firstly I noticed that occasionally upon starting the engine would rev from between 1000 and 1300 rpm roughly 4 times before settling at a a constant idle. It does not do this very often but when it does it is always exactly the same pattern of revving for 1-2 seconds before settling down. After noticing this and having read loads of posts online about grubby throttle bodies I took mine apart and gave it a thorough clean with throttle cleaner, including the relevant sensors. This has not solved the problem however.
A few days later I started to notice warning lights. Firstly the electrical warning light came on accompanied by the toxic fume light. These came on several times while driving but nothing more sever happened. Then however after this happened several times the 'STOP' light came on 1 minute into my journey and the car became completely unresponsive to any throttle input. The engine just idled happily at a normal speed but it was as if the throttle pedal had been disconnected. Thankfully I was able to coast into a lay-by and after 5 mins of waiting I restarted the car, had no fault lights and continued my way to work without any problems. The same thing happened yesterday but this time after trying to restart the engine several times and pressing the throttle it did start working again but the idle was at around 1500 and full throttle only took the revs up to 2000. Another 5 mins of waiting saw the problem disappear again and no further issues have occurred today.
I would hugely appreciate any tips or advice, but to save everyones time I have spent the last week trawling these forums and have done everything I can see to remedy the problems I am having, (e.g. checking wires around ECU connectors, checking relay contacts for corrosion, checking/cleaning all engine top loom connectors, removed and dismantled throttle pedal to clean potentiometer contacts, etc etc). I have also invested in some CATACLEAN to see if this will help the toxic fume sensor issue.
People point at TDC sensor but I have no starting problems so not sure if this is at fault, also the coil seems to be a common issue but apart from these freak situations every now and again, the running of the engine is great!
I therefore feel the only faults left could be the top engine loom or the ECU, but please let me know if there is anything else that could be causing my problems?!
Just to add I have had a classic wet drivers footwell too but the sunroof is now siliconed (+ cleared scuttle drains/sunroof drains etc) and there appears to be no water damage to any fuse boxes/electrical components as a result.
