Hello.
I've been involved in an incident where a car approached and overtook mine dangerously (at high speed, deliberately using full beam headlights etc.), swerved to a stop across both lanes deliberately blocking them and forcing me to stop, then exited the vehicle and approached me in a clearly threatening manner. Basically, road rage.
I've instinctively put the car into reverse and backed away, colliding with a car which had continued to approach from behind. This car swerved last minute hence the damage is not major and mostly involves some damage along one side of each vehicle.
The driver who had blocked the road immediately returned to his vehicle and drove off after seeing the collision. There were witnesses including pedestrians, though only a partial licence plate identification could be made. At this time we are still awaiting an update from the police as to whether the driver and vehicle have been located.
It's a long straight road with good visibility. I've reversed probably for a distance of around 20 feet, its hard to gauge my speed but not excessive. The car behind will have had good sight of the blocked road and my vehicle reversing. The entire incident happened very fast.
The cause of the road rage is not clear.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision with mine had claimed against my insurance. I had not expected this, assuming the road rage driver would be fully liable having initiated the incident. This has now raised a further question in my mind - is liability affected if the road rage driver is not located? I would have assumed in this case we'd each have to suck it up and pay/claim for our own repairs.
Any advice or suggestions welcome. Thanks.
