Round About Accident..advise needed.

Good Evening All

I had an accident yesterday at a busy roundabout, luckily myself and the other driver are fine. Apart from me having whiplash. It would of been a different story if he had came in to me 1 second later hitting the driver door so I am very lucky. My car is looking like a write off, all of the front is a mess, it was a front/side on collision (his front passenger side to my driver side). I have a 56 plate suzuki swift 1.5. I am hoping it can be fixed but I think the cost of the repairs could be more than the car value.

I think it was the other drivers fault however being a new driver myself I am worried I had caused the accident, can someone help shed any light? My insurers advise that 50/50 is the likely out come.

I was entering the 4 exit/entrance round about from south inside line (2 lanes each ent/exit) going straight across taking the 2nd exit off of the round-a-bout (heading north, I was in the inside line for straight on and right) on approach to the round about I could see that all traffic on my right was at a stand still (rush hour traffic) coming from north to south. I had been stopped at traffic lights right before the round-a-bout so had plenty time to analyze to round-a-bout. I knew I could go as no-one on the other entrance to the round-a-bout could go as the entrance/exit was blocked by car going straight across and the other entrance had traffic que'd all the way back however I stopped at the give way line to double check I could go, went in to 1stG checked again and then went across in the inside lane but half way along I fault a big push and am almighty bang as a big subaura legacy came in to the side of me, pushing me on to the outside lane. I managed keep control of the car carried on off the round-a-bout and pulled over to swap details with the guy.

He was coming from the north (inside lane) heading west taking the first exit from where I had started.

I automatically apologized as I wasn't sure what had happened, the guy has a wee bump on his passenger side and went as white as a ghost when he seen my car. He hut the front driver side, smashing all my lights, pushing my bumper right across the front, my bonnet had partially popped open, the grill was on the other side of the road, the car lost all power even the hazards wouldn't work.

I asked the guy who was at fault with the crash he didn't know, neither did I. All I know that he wasn't visible on the round-a-bout when I went on to it. As I was speaking to him he said he had been waiting in traffic for 20 mins which makes me think he was possibly speeding which is why I didn't see him as I came on to the round-a-bout as the impact I felt was a big one pushing me up the road I do think he was going at a faster than necessary speed as there were traffic lights just after the exit he was taking so taking that in to consideration he should of been going slower. Also thinking back to the incident the guy didn't beep at me, if you are away to hit someones car with your car you would automatically beep at them to see if that could make them react to avoid the impact but he didn't, so I don't think he seen me until he hut. I don't think the guy would of seen me enter the round-a-bout from where he had entered.

We were in a 30 mph zone, I was going about 15 getting ready to go in to 2nd gear on the round-a-bout this guy was doing about 25 - 30 from the state of my car.

Can anyone help with figuring out who was at fault. Sorry I have tried to explain this the best I could. I think if I had been going slightly faster and if he would of been going a bit slower we would of been fine and missed each other which makes me think it could be 50/50 however if there is a chance that it is the guys fault or my fault I want to know as I need peace of mind regarding the incident.

Please post your views, thanks in advance.
