Hi all,
A couple of days ago, whilst pulling away my 2005 Ford Ka from a parking spot I bumped into a 2007 Ford Focus. It was a tiny bump but the driver went ballistic. He told me to come over and look at his car closely. There were two really small indentations at the bottom of both the back and front door, hardly noticeable unless I looked really closely. He kept asking for my insurance details but I've only been driving 5mths so didn't want to go through to the insurer to get it fixed. I figured it wouldn't cost much to fix so I said to get some quotes at a garage. After he calmed down, he agreed we could pay half each.
We swapped numbers and off he went.
Later that day, he calls to say the car will cost £400-£500 to fix as the garage pointed out there was also a small practically invisible dent in the panel thats runs under the doors! He again pushed for my insurance details claiming he wouldn't to go that route. I again said I didn't want to.
The driver is very difficult to deal with; I try and find a solution and he tries to find more problems. I met with him again and spoke to the garage who brought the cost down to £300. The driver agreed to pay £50 towards it. I'm still fuming though as £250 is still too much for me to pay for something so minimal.
A few questions:
Am I legally allowed to withhold insurance details? How much would my premium go up by over the years if a claim was made? It's currently around £1,200 a year.
Can I still dispute the dents in the car? I'm not even sure the bottom dent was caused by me and costs the most to fix?
How do I know this guy won't just take my money and not get the car fixed? It was clear he didn't care about the look of it as it was covered in a thick layer of dust at the time of the incident.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
