Volkswagon Polo 1.4 72S 4cyl (cylinder misfire)

Hello people I've recently joined and found an old thread regarding eml for vw polo basically due to misfire in 1 cylinder.

One guy suggested creating my own thread so here it is.

Car went into a independent garage for to check engine management light on and steady. Suspicions were lambda sensor and garage confirmed lambda had gone but could not disclose test procedures.

They also said that diagnostics showed mis fire in cylinder 4. So they said "we changed the coil pack, which didn't work then we checked for low compression which showed cylinders 1, 2 and 3 has Psi readings of roughly 150psi each but cylinder 4 showed 100psi". Whilst checking for low compression he said " we looked at the spark plugs and they looked alright"!!! (Actual words) He then stated this would result in cylinder head off! ££££££

Didn't want to go through with removing cylinder head due to funds etc.... Plus I feel, due to reading info and checking this forum that there are other avenues to go down ie Combustion, timing and maybe an emissions test aswell ( Please know I'm a novice so that's the reason for my post).

So really question is:- If it's showing low compression on one cylinder does that always boil down to cylinder head removal or IS there other things causing this slight mis Fire which I can't feel whilst driving btw but the engine does shudder!

Any help/comments would be much appreciated. 😉👍
