Ford Fiesta 1999
1.3 Engine
40 Litre

Im new to the RAC Forums so Hello Everyone,

I have a small problem with my Ford Fiesta, It has started to Over Rev for some random reason. I've had it only 5 months and it's recently had an MoT in that 5 Months. Now it will only over rev on some occasions and others not. Here are some examples when it does it.

- When changing gears (Up & Down) ( All Gears )
- When travelling at a set speed ( 20/30/40/50 ect ) and taking my foot off the accelerator and pressing in the clutch
- When slowing coming to a stop at a red light ( car revs high around 3000 till car stops completely then revs drop )
- Car rev's idle on around 1100-1300 ( I think this is too high )
( secondary problem could effect?) - Car's accelerator peddle is 1cm ish loose
I've looked at the engine myself and the only problem to even think about is the accelerator peddle, when looking at the engine and revving it via the engine itself its fine the accelerator switch flings back hard, nothing catching between it to suggest blockage, But the silver wire that goes into the engine itself is about 1cm slack I can push my finger down on it about 1cm before it begins to pull on the accelerator.
I've had a feel and the wire also seems to have some kind of small fraying of metal, now the rubber tube it goes into the engine with at the start im sure the metal can catch on that rubber at the right angle and sit there holding the revs in. But that wouldn't help with the fact that when I press in the clutch even without the accelerator peddle in, the clutch itself can boost the revs up 1000+. so there's a confusing problem, why would 1 thing do this when there's something else doing it without an explination.

If needed I can take pictures of what exactly I'm trying to explain if it is confusing. But I think a car finatic at least for ford's would know this kind of fault and something of what I explained.

Thanks
Reece,
