I have a 'P' reg VW Polo, 15 years old but very low mileage, bought recently. Got the timing belt done, mechanics said it was beuatiful inside, clean engine, tip top.
Anyway, today I used the remote to unlock and unset the immobiliser, then sat in the car for too long and had to use the little key for the immobiliser to get started.
When I get home, I noticed that the remote wouldn't set the alarm and lock the car. I tried removing and reinstalling the battery and going through the remote programming etc., but no joy.
Then I noticed that locking the driver door with the key also wasn't activating the central locking.
The immobiliser light on the dash has completely gone out - it lights red with the key, but never turns green - but the car starts. So it appears the immobiliser is dead or malfunctioning. I'm glad I can start the car, but a bit peeved that it's not working, and I can't seem to find a similar problem here.
