Engine has failed 4 weeks after buying a car - Advice Needed

Hi guys,

I just wanted to get some advice on a problem that I am experiencing.

I purchased a BMW 1 Series, 09 plate for £8000 from a dealer with 51,000 on the clock about 4 weeks ago. I also was given 24 month warranty.

Last week the pedal became very stiff and it was very hard to brake, I claimed for a new vacuum pump through the warranty and this was covered (£480 total price) I was not happy that a fault had occured so soon. Anyway this week I made an 80 mile journey back to where I live and the engine management light came on, took it to the local BMW garage and was told that the timing had slipped. Currently looking at over £1000 for this to be repaired...my warranty only covers £1000. The car will need to be towed back 80 miles to the garage that repaired the pedal as the garage that diagnosed the timing said he doesn't have the tools to fix this and there are no other appropriate garages.

Can anyone provide me with any advice on what I should do from here? The dealer said (over the phone) he will pay any extra over the initial £1000 from the warranty but i am wary of letting the garage strip the engine down and then the warranty company may refuse the claim. I will then be stuck and my car in bits.

Thanks in advance!
