Please tell me it's not just me forgetting to check mirrors enough. Just to quick update for anyone who doesn't know. I'm currently having driving refresher lessons in order to help me pass a driving assessment following a car accident 2 years ago. I have driven on full licence from December til May then made a few daft mistakes on an assessment so have to have another which is booked for 1st October. I honestly feel I can drive safely and it is just minor bad habits that is the problem. Both me and my mum felt that I've driven better since the accident and my mum is someone who can't drive but thinks she would be the perfect driver and does pick up on any minor mistake so would say if she thought I was driving badly.
Well had a few lessons up to no the ADI seems to agree with me on a lot of things that driving once you pass you do pick up bad habits that are safe like not checking mirror while normal driving. This is something I've been told about a lot when I was learning even up to tests. Once I passed surprisingly I actually did keep checking mirrors enough until I had the accident then had over a year not driving then as I was still able to drive on full licence checking mirrors wasn't mentioned. I do check them before moving off or changing lanes I've had a few times on lessons and a test where I messed up on that so do make sure I check them now. It's the checking inside mirror every few seconds when driving in same lane I forget and checking it before stopping. Way I see it is if you have to stop for whatever reason red traffic light, car in front stopped, someone crossing road what ever is behind you still need to stop. You can't go through red light if someone behind may hit you if you stop. Well you could but you would be in wrong. Speed is another thing I need to watch which on this I do agree is more important as going over limit is illegal and going much under it is very annoying to other drivers. I have done both a few times mainly due to not watching speed meter enough only a few mph each way. But mirrors is annoying. I told my instructor today if he watches me for checking mirrors he will know when I've remembered them because each time I do I check them every few seconds then there's something else to watch like my speed or what's happening in front.
