What do you drivers think of motorcycles.

I have been a motorcyclists for more years than a car diver. I rode bikes off road when I was 13 and on the road at 16. I have about 50 years of on road and off road experience.

Every years many motorcyclist come a cropper at junctions in towns and villages. Stats show that most motorcycle accidents occur within 5 miles of home so many may presume rightly or wrongly that a lot of it is commuting rather than social riding. About 70% of accident happen in urban [ town] areas and some 30% in rural areas on country roads. About 60% of accidents on roundabouts, both large and mini involve a two wheeled vehicle. [ twv] Every year stats tell the story of the fact that motorcyclists are only 1% of traffic and 19% of all fatalities. That a motorcyclists is between 30 and 50 times more likely to die than a car driver.

It is recognised that the majority of accidents in Towns involve another vehicle whilst those out in the country do not. SO WHAT IS GOING WRONG.

My question is aimed towards the accidents that happen in Towns and to you, the car, bus, hgv, van driver. I am not putting any blame but of those 70% of town accidents involving another vehicle the vast majority of them have to some degree a contribution by a driver. eg. at a junction car pulls out, otherwise known as a smidsy [ sorry mate I didn't see you ]

here is an opportunity to state the case either in an actual situation that you as a car driver found yourself in or in an opinion that you hold as regards to this situation and the persons or other matters to be held contributory or actually responsible. You may have a solution, lets hear it. sensible ones that is.

Please consider your answers as it is a serious matter Many local authorities have in the past tried to understand what it is that is the cause. now is the time to put your point of view forward and lets have a good discourse and dialogue and hope to come to some concrete solution or at least a better understanding of where the blame may lie.

I believe that this is the first time such an enquiry has been entered on s Forum and as this is a combined forum made upo of motorcyclists and other drivers it is your opinions that may help reduce the risks in the future.
