Have just been reading about the two Newcastle University medical students murdered in Borneo. In recent times, quite a number of our valuable people skilled in medical care have been lost due to various acts of violent behaviour in eastern countries. I'm afraid that if I had a close family member who volunteered, or was asked to volunteer, to carry out aid work in these countries, I would exercise very serious effort to persuade them to decline.
Apart from the grief for the families of such victims, we cannot afford to lose valuable, highly skilled people from our community.
