Bought car that has always recorded "Mileage" in Kilometers....

Hi. I just recently bought a 2011 Vauxhall Meriva. The "mileage" showed 33,500 approx. I did notice that on the display it showed a very small "Km" sign, but I assumed that this was only applying to the trip reading. There are three settings for the trip meter (2 to show Miles & 1 to show Kilometers). I changed the setting to miles because I wanted the trip meter to show mileage. On doing this the main mileage became 20,944, a new figure which is obviously MILES. This therefore means that the previous figure was definitely kilometers.

Now on the face of it I should be over the moon that my new purchase is a significantly lower mileage car. However, all the services have shown the figure as MILEAGE, the recent MOT shows the figure as MILES and even the HPI report and the registration document gives a figure as MILES when in fact they should have shown the figures as KILOMETERS or have converted the figure to show a true MILEAGE.

I don't know if it is relevant, but the car is an ex-Motability vehicle & I bought it from a "small private dealer"

I believe the car has always been set to kilometers from new and that the main dealer who serviced & MOT'd the car never picked this up.

I do not intend to sell the car for quite a while, but I can foresee a problem when I have to MOT the car next year because the mileage will not have gone up & may even show a lower figure than this Year's MOT.

That is what I see as the problem. Any Ideas as to what I could/should do?
