Acceleration and power problems – Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec (55reg 80k miles)

About 6 weeks ago I overfilled my car with oil because I had an oil leak (about 1litre more than I should have!). The car was blowing out smoke and losing acceleration because of the extra oil I put in. I got my oil filter replaced (which was what was leaking) and sorted out the oil level (though I am unsure whether the correct oil was replaced as apparently Zetec engines have a very specific oil of 5w30 fully synth (or is it 5w40?)).

After this it wasn't driving right, it felt ok but not the same as before, like the acceleration was sluggish/slow. Then on Friday 6/6 it lost power for a few seconds a couple of times and I had to really floor it to get it going again.

I took it into my usual garage and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, ran diagnostics on it and no problems. So thought it might just be a one off thing.

To be safe I got the spark plugs and air filter replaced and put some redex in and it's made no difference. The car still felt sluggish and not like before.

Then last night (Mon 16/6) during a short journey it dropped power again a lot more often and for longer periods of time, having to really floor it to get it to move sometimes, then it goes ok, then it goes bad again. Forgot to mention, last night I revved her up in neutral to see if I could hear anything and could detect like a fluttering noise when I released the throttle.

From what I've been told it could be either:
• Electrical fault with the fuel mapping
• Oil in the engine or catalytic converter

It's a 55reg 1.25 ford fiesta zetec, with 80k on the clock! Any ideas anyone? Cheers!
